FoodSim guide
What FoodSim is and how the experience works
FoodSim is a top-down arena where two teams of agents collect fruit and deliver it to their goals. Each agent runs a tiny neural network, and the network evolves every generation so the teams slowly get smarter. Your job is to guide the run, watch patterns appear, and tune the controls to shape their behaviour.
What you can do while it runs
- Watch the action: the canvas shows agents, fruit, goals, and any obstacles you add.
- Track progress: the stats bar shows the current generation, deliveries, and the best fitness so far.
- Follow the best brain: the network monitor highlights the top performer and its live fitness score.
- Paint obstacles: use the obstacle tools to draw circles, rectangles, lines, or half-shields.
- Switch perspectives: toggle Performance mode to hide side panels and focus on the field.
What you should adjust (simple checklist)
- Fruit count & placement: set how many fruit spawn and where they start for each round.
- Team sliders: tweak speed, awareness, strategy, and separation to change team style.
- Learning sliders: control mutation rate, elites, and generation length to speed up learning.
- Collisions & energy: decide if agents collide and how fast they tire out.
- Obstacles: start with an open field, then add obstacles only when you want more challenge.
Quick way to get a good run
- Start in the open field and let a few generations play out.
- Increase mutation if the teams look stuck, or lower it when you see good behaviour.
- Raise awareness and speed if agents feel too slow to react.
- Add obstacles only after you see consistent fruit delivery.
Tip: If the agents spiral or crash too much, lower speed and raise separation. If they take forever to deliver fruit,
increase awareness or add more fruit to the map.
